Hidden Treasure
Hidden treasure in Wanderfolk is a loot system where every tree in the world holds a one-time searchable cache with drops across 4 rarity tiers (common through legendary). Tree type multipliers up to 4x dramatically increase rare loot chances, and each biome has its own pool of unique legendary items.
How It Works
Walk up to any tree and press E to search it. Each tree can only be searched once — after that, it’s empty. Not every tree holds treasure; the chance depends on the tree type and biome. When you do find something, the rarity is rolled from four tiers.
Rarity Tiers
| Tier | Drop Rate | Contents |
|---|---|---|
| Common | ~60% of finds | Herbs, basic materials, small silver amounts |
| Uncommon | ~25% of finds | Crafting materials, seeds, modest equipment |
| Rare | ~12% of finds | Enchanted items, rare reagents, quality gear |
| Legendary | ~3% of finds | Biome-specific unique items (see below) |
Tree Type Multipliers
The type of tree dramatically affects your chances of finding rare loot:
| Tree Type | Rarity Multiplier | Where Found |
|---|---|---|
| Standard trees | 1x (baseline) | All biomes |
| Magical trees | 3x | Enchanted Grove, Ancient Ruins |
| Crystal trees | 3.5x | Crystal Caves |
| Ancient trees | 4x | Dense Forest, Dark Hollow |
A 4x multiplier on an ancient tree means your legendary drop chance jumps from ~3% to ~12%. When you spot one in a dangerous biome, it’s worth the risk.
Biome-Specific Legendary Items
Each biome has its own pool of legendary treasure that can only be found in trees within that biome. These items are unique rewards for exploring dangerous territory:
- Meadow — pastoral keepsakes and blessed seeds
- Dense Forest — ancient carvings and druidic artifacts
- Mountains — runestone fragments and frozen relics
- Desert — sunstone amulets and buried dynasty coins
- Volcanic — ember-forged trinkets and obsidian shards
- Crystal Caves — prismatic geodes and resonance crystals
- Enchanted Grove — fae-touched reagents and living wood charms
- Dark Hollow — cursed artifacts with powerful but risky effects
Fairy Hint Sprites
Fairy hint sprites appear near trees that hold treasure — flickering lights at the edge of your vision that reward observant explorers. Fairies are more visible at dusk and dawn, and their glow intensifies near higher-rarity caches. They won’t lead you directly to the tree, but if you see a faint shimmer near a cluster of ancient trees, it’s worth investigating.
Note: fairies are protected creatures — harming them triggers a bad luck debuff that reduces loot quality for several days.
Tips
- Watch for fairy sprites near tree clusters — they indicate nearby treasure
- Search every ancient and magical tree you find — the rarity multiplier makes them significantly more rewarding
- Dangerous biomes tend to have rarer tree types, creating a natural risk/reward curve
- Legendary items are one-per-tree and one-per-world — once found, they won’t appear again in that playthrough
- Tree treasure is a strong early-game income source before you have access to crafting or trading
