Blacksmith Services
Blacksmith NPCs offer equipment repair services that restore durability to your weapons, tools, and armor. Since all equipment degrades with use and breaks permanently at zero durability, regular blacksmith visits are essential for maintaining your gear — especially high-tier items that are expensive to replace.
Equipment Durability
Every weapon, tool, and piece of armor has a durability rating that decreases through use:
- Weapons lose durability when you attack enemies
- Tools (axes, pickaxes, hoes) lose durability when harvesting or mining
- Armor loses durability when you take damage in combat
When durability reaches zero, the item is destroyed permanently. There is no way to recover a broken item — you must craft or buy a replacement.
Quality and Durability
Higher quality items start with more durability and last longer:
| Quality | Durability Multiplier |
|---|---|
| Poor | 0.5x (half normal) |
| Normal | 1.0x |
| Good | 1.5x |
| Excellent | 2.0x (double normal) |
An Excellent mithril sword has four times the effective lifespan of a Poor one. Investing in crafting skill to consistently produce Good or Excellent items saves significant gold on repairs over time.
Repair Services
Any blacksmith NPC in any village can repair your equipment. Talk to the blacksmith and select the repair option to see your damaged items.
Repair Costs
Repair costs scale with two factors:
- Material tier — higher-tier materials cost more to repair. Mithril repairs are significantly more expensive than iron.
- Damage amount — the more durability lost, the higher the repair cost. Repairing a sword at 80% durability is cheaper than waiting until 10%.
| Material | Approximate Cost (full repair) |
|---|---|
| Iron | 5-15 gold |
| Steel | 15-30 gold |
| Obsidian | 30-60 gold |
| Mithril | 60-120 gold |
Tip: Repair frequently rather than waiting for items to nearly break. Small repairs are proportionally cheaper, and you avoid the risk of an item breaking mid-dungeon.
Reputation Discount
Your reputation with the blacksmith affects repair prices. At +50 reputation, you receive a 15% discount. At +80 reputation (Beloved status), repairs cost 25% less. Building a relationship with your local blacksmith pays for itself over time.
Stack-Safe Repairs
The repair system processes items safely regardless of inventory state. You can repair multiple items in a single visit — the blacksmith handles each piece sequentially without inventory corruption. Items being repaired remain in your inventory throughout the process.
Finding Blacksmiths
Blacksmiths appear in most villages with a population of 8 or more. They work at the forge during daytime hours (7 AM - 6 PM) following the standard NPC daily schedule. Look for the forge building — a distinct structure with a chimney and anvil.
Larger villages and cities may have multiple blacksmiths. Culture affects availability — Cragborn mountain villages almost always have blacksmiths, while smaller Meadowfolk hamlets may not.
