Historical note: Wanderfolk's public release path is now Steam-first. Older update posts may refer to the browser build or earlier desktop plans as they existed when originally published.

Not everyone wants to fight skeletons at midnight. Peaceful Mode is a new difficulty setting that removes combat entirely, letting you focus on village life, crafting, trading, and NPC relationships without ever swinging a sword.

Toggle it from the difficulty selector and the world changes immediately. Monsters drop aggro and return to wandering — they’re still in the world, but they ignore you. Bandits disengage from fights and leave you alone on the road. Hostile creatures de-aggro and lose interest. Even inside dungeons, enemies won’t attack. You take no damage from any source. The ranged combat key is disabled. You can explore every corner of the world without danger.

Dungeon exploration still works — you can enter, explore rooms, and navigate the layout — but chests don’t drop loot in peaceful mode. The dungeons become atmospheric spaces to walk through rather than combat challenges. Everything else — NPC conversations, crafting, trading, farming, reputation, village initiatives, quests — works exactly as it does in normal mode.

Meanwhile, caravan traders got smarter about how they move. The new terrain-aware routing system uses grid-based pathfinding to navigate around obstacles, water, and difficult terrain. Caravans sample biome data along their path and slow down in rough terrain rather than clipping through mountains. A three-tier routing fallback ensures caravans always reach their destination — full pathfinding first, simplified waypoints second, direct line as a last resort.

Caravans also now park at designated route anchors outside villages, approaching along inner and outer lanes that keep them from walking through buildings. The result is traders that move through the world like they belong in it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Wanderfolk have a peaceful mode?

Yes. Peaceful mode disables all combat — monsters, bandits, and hostile creatures ignore you, and you take no damage. Everything else works normally: NPC conversations, crafting, trading, farming, quests, and village initiatives. Toggle it from the difficulty selector at any time.

How do caravans navigate in Wanderfolk?

Caravan traders use terrain-aware pathfinding that samples biome data along their route. They avoid water and obstacles, slow down in rough terrain, and park at designated spots outside villages. A three-tier routing system ensures they always reach their destination even in complex terrain.
