Historical note: Wanderfolk's public release path is now Steam-first. Older update posts may refer to the browser build or earlier desktop plans as they existed when originally published.

TL;DR: A full leather tanning pipeline lets you skin creatures, tan hides at a tanning rack, and craft clothing at a new weaver loom building — adding 16 tanning recipes, 4 wearable clothing items, and 7 new hide drops to the game.

The crafting system just got deeper. A full leather tanning pipeline now connects creature combat to wearable gear: skin a creature, tan the hide at a tanning rack, then craft the finished leather into clothing at the weaver loom.

The tanning rack is a new outdoor crafting station found near blacksmiths. It handles 16 tanning recipes — one for each creature hide type in the game. Wolf pelts, bear hides, boar skins, shadow fur — each tans into a leather variant used in different recipes. The tanning process uses the crafting minigame system, so quality matters.

The weaver loom is a new tier-2 building that spawns in villages with textile traditions. Inside, you’ll find the loom station where 4 new clothing items can be crafted: linen shirt, wool cloak, leather gloves, and wool socks. Each provides different stat bonuses and fills equipment slots that were previously empty.

Supporting this pipeline: 7 new hide items that drop from creatures and function as trade goods when you don’t need them for crafting. Sell excess hides to merchants or stockpile them for a crafting session.

Also new: harvestable wood log nodes in four variants scattered across forested biomes, and a watering can that serves as a portable water source for cooking and alchemy recipes when you’re away from a well.

The total recipe count is now 195 across 8 crafting stations. The wilderness drops more than bones now. Bring a knife.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does leather tanning work in Wanderfolk?

Leather tanning is a multi-step crafting process. First, kill a creature and collect its hide (wolves drop wolf pelts, bears drop bear hides, etc.). Then bring the hide to a tanning rack — an outdoor crafting station found near blacksmith buildings in villages. The tanning rack converts raw hides into finished leather using the crafting minigame, so your skill affects the quality. Finally, take the leather to a weaver loom to craft it into clothing and gear.

What clothing can you craft at the weaver loom?

The weaver loom currently supports four clothing items: linen shirt, wool cloak, leather gloves, and wool socks. Each provides different stat bonuses and fills equipment slots that were previously empty. The weaver loom is a tier-2 building that appears in villages with textile traditions, so you may need to explore to find one.

Where do you find the tanning rack?

Tanning racks are outdoor crafting stations that spawn near blacksmith buildings in villages. Look for them in the area around the blacksmith’s workshop. They handle all 16 hide-to-leather recipes in the game, one for each creature hide type.
